In short. A trading team needs three things: shared risk rules that apply to every member's account, a leaderboard that rewards consistency rather than one lucky month, and a regular review. A leaderboard ranked by return alone pushes people to take more risk — look at drawdown, profit factor and the number of trades next to it.
Team risk rules
The lead sets the boundaries within which a trader is free. A typical set:
- risk per trade — for example, no more than 1% of the account;
- daily loss limit — for example, 3%: after it, no trading until tomorrow;
- maximum drawdown — the threshold at which the account is stopped and reviewed;
- trades per day and open positions — protection against overtrading and overload.
A rule without enforcement does not work: if a limit can be broken «just a little» on a bad day, a bad day is exactly when it will be broken. So it is better to move the limits into a tool that closes new entries on its own — for example, a risk manager in the terminal. How to set a daily limit and a stop loss is covered in «How to limit losses in MT5».
A leaderboard that does not reward risk
If first place goes to the best return of the month, the winner is whoever took more risk and got lucky. A 30-day example:
| Trader | Return | Max drawdown | Profit factor | Trades |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A | +18% | −22% | 1.3 | 9 |
| B | +7% | −3% | 1.9 | 42 |
A leads on return, but 9 trades with a 22% drawdown look more like luck than skill. B's return is lower, but the sample is larger, the drawdown small and the profit factor higher. Look at return together with drawdown and the number of trades, and compare over 30 and 90 days — a week says almost nothing.
Review
- weekly — trades that broke the rules and what they cost;
- monthly — the 30- and 90-day leaderboard, drawdowns, who came close to the limits;
- after a limit triggers — what led to it: a streak, position size, time of day.
How a mentor can review trades with the same checklist every time is covered in «How a mentor should review students' trading journals».
A team in Davinchu
A team is one of three space types (together with school and community). Roles: owner, lead, trader and observer; members join by a link or a code with a role, an expiry and a usage limit, and the number of members is unlimited.
- Each member decides what to share. Until a trader shares an account with the space, nothing about their trading is visible. When sharing, they choose: metrics (return, win rate, profit factor, drawdown — on by default), balance and equity, trades, team limits. Access can be closed at any time.
- Leaderboard — for shared accounts over 7, 30 or 90 days: return, win rate, profit factor, drawdown, number of trades, equity. The header shows the team's average return, overall win rate, worst drawdown and total equity.
- Risk policy — daily loss, maximum drawdown, risk per trade, trades per day and open positions. It applies to accounts where the trader ticked «Apply the team limits to this account»; they cannot change or delete a team rule — only stop sharing the account. At 70% and 90% of a limit a notification is sent, at 100% the T-Manager EA closes new entries — until the end of the day for daily limits and until the drawdown falls below the limit for maximum drawdown; open positions are not touched. The lead sees which accounts the limits apply to and how many times they triggered in the last 24 hours.
It is a discipline tool with the trader's consent, not control over someone else's account: the limits work through the MetaTrader 5 risk manager, and the trader needs a risk manager seat for that (from the Plus plan). Creating spaces starts with Plus, joining works on any plan, and each member uses their own plan. More on the «Davinchu for schools and teams» page; about prop limits — in «Prop firm risk management».
