In short. The investor password is the second password of a MetaTrader 5 account and gives view-only access: with it you see the account state, positions and history, but you cannot trade. It is used to show an account to an investor or to connect a monitoring service. The steps below follow the MetaTrader 5 help as of October 11, 2026.

Never share the master password: it allows trading on your account.

Where to get and how to change the investor password

When you open a demo account from the terminal, the final window shows three values: login, password and investor password. A live account is opened by the broker; if the investor password is not in the broker's email or client area, set it yourself:

  1. «Tools» → «Options» (Ctrl+O) → «Server» tab → the «Change» button.
  2. Enter the master password in «Current password».
  3. Choose «Change investor password» and enter the new one twice.

The same window opens from the «Navigator»: right-click the account → «Change Password». The new password must be at least the length shown in the window and contain lowercase and uppercase letters, digits and special characters. If the broker forces a master password change, the investor password is reset and has to be set again.

In MetaTrader 4: «Tools» → «Options» → «Server» → «Change», with «Change investor (read only) password» ticked.

How to log in with the investor password

«File» → «Login to Trade Account»: login (account number), investor password and the broker's server. The terminal opens the account in view mode; EAs in it cannot trade.

A password given to a service gives view access to anyone who gets hold of it. If you are not sure where it is stored, change it. How monitoring services work in practice — in «MT5 account monitoring: 4 ways».

How Davinchu connects an account

Davinchu asks for neither the master nor the investor password: a MetaTrader 5 or 4 account is connected by the Davinchu Trade Monitor EA with a key from the dashboard. The EA sends trades, balance, equity and history; the server sends it no trading commands. The key can be rotated at any time — the old one stops working. Data flows while the terminal runs — on your computer or on a VPS; if the connection drops, «Account connection lost» arrives after 10 minutes. The Free plan connects two accounts at no cost; more on the «Account monitoring» page.

You can show an account to an investor with a link to a public page — no password, and you choose what to show; more in «How to show trading results to an investor». Installing the EA — in «How to install an EA in MT5».
