FAQ

常见问题

What is risk of ruin in trading?

The probability that within a given number of trades the drawdown reaches the level at which you have to stop. It depends on the win rate, the ratio of average win to average loss and the risk per trade.

What risk per trade is safe?

It depends on the strategy and the threshold. In the example with a 45% win rate and a 1.5 ratio, the risk of ruin at a 30% threshold within 500 trades is 2% at 1% risk per trade and 48.9% at 2%.

Why is the result a model and not a forecast?

The model assumes the win rate and win/loss ratio stay constant and trades are independent. In real markets a strategy's statistics change, so the numbers show a spread, not the future.

What is the difference between a threshold from the peak and from the starting balance?

From the peak — drawdown is measured from the capital high, like a trailing drawdown. From the starting balance — from the initial amount, like the static drawdown on many prop accounts.

Where do I get my win rate and win/loss ratio?

From at least 50–100 of your own trades. The Davinchu trading journal calculates them automatically and builds a risk model from your trading days.
