FAQ

常见问题

How do I calculate margin in forex?

Margin = lots × contract size × price / leverage, in the quote currency, converted into the account currency. 1 lot of EURUSD at 1.08 with 1:100 leverage takes $1,080 on a dollar account.

How do I calculate margin level and free margin?

Margin level = equity / margin × 100%, free margin = equity − margin. With $2,000 of equity and $1,080 of margin the level is 185.19% and free margin is $920.

How many pips until stop out?

Room = equity − margin × stop out level / 100; in pips — the room divided by lots × pip value. In the example with a 50% stop out: 2,000 − 540 = $1,460, at $10 per pip — 146 pips; to a 100% margin call — 92 pips.

Does leverage affect risk?

Not by itself: leverage changes only the margin and the room to stop out. The loss per pip does not depend on leverage, so trade risk is set by volume and the stop loss.

Will the result match MetaTrader 5?

For forex symbols with a margin rate of 1, yes: in the MetaTrader 5 help 1 lot of EURUSD at 1:100 is 1,000 euros, or $1,279 at 1.2790, and the calculator gives the same. If the symbol specification sets another margin rate, an initial margin or its own leverage for metals and CFDs, the broker's amount will differ.

Where do I find the margin call and stop out levels?

In your account terms at the broker: they are account settings on the server and vary between brokers and account types. The calculator defaults to 100% and 50%, as in the margin article example. The Davinchu Trade Monitor EA reads the levels from the account itself: the chart dashboard uses them for the room to the thresholds, and the stop out message shows the stop out level.
