FAQ

常见问题

How much do I need to gain after a 50% drawdown?

100%. After losing half the capital 50% is left, and to get back to the original amount it has to double.

Why is recovering a drawdown harder than losing?

Gains are measured on the reduced capital. Losing 20% of $10,000 leaves $8,000, and to win back $2,000 you need 25% of $8,000.

What drawdown does a losing streak produce?

With risk taken from the current balance — 1 − (1 − risk)ⁿ. Ten losses in a row at 1% risk give 9.56%, at 2% — 18.29%, at 5% — 40.13%.

What is the difference between risk of the current balance and a fixed amount?

With risk of the current balance the loss shrinks as the balance shrinks, so drawdown grows more slowly. With a fixed amount every losing trade costs the same: n trades at 1% is n%.

How do I avoid a large drawdown?

Keep risk per trade small, size from the stop, set a daily loss limit and a maximum drawdown after which no new trades open, and watch drawdown on equity.
