How do I calculate lot size in forex?

Divide the risk in money by the stop loss in pips times the pip value per lot. For example, $100 of risk with a 20-pip stop on EURUSD ($10 per pip per lot) is 0.5 lots.

What is the pip value per lot?

For pairs quoted in US dollars (EURUSD, GBPUSD) it is $10 per standard 100,000 lot. For yen pairs it is ¥1,000, which in dollars is 1,000 divided by the USDJPY rate. For gold with a 100-ounce contract it is $10 per $0.1 pip.

What is the difference between a pip and a point?

With five-digit quotes a point is the last digit of the price and a pip equals ten points. A 200-point stop in MetaTrader is 20 pips.

How much should I risk per trade?

A common guideline is 0.5–2% of the balance per trade; prop accounts also cap risk with a daily loss limit. The calculator sizes the position for whatever risk you choose.

Why does my broker show a different size?

Check the contract size and volume step in the instrument specification: for metals, indices and crypto they differ between brokers. For such instruments choose «Other instrument» and enter the pip value per lot from the specification.

Why does the calculator need an exchange rate?

Only when the quote currency differs from the account currency — for example USDJPY on a USD account or EURUSD on a EUR account. Take the rate from your terminal: the site does not insert quotes itself so it never sizes a position on a stale price.
