In short. Tracking a crypto portfolio answers three questions: what all your coins on all exchanges and wallets are worth, how much you made on them given the purchase price, and how much of that is your own deposits. You need a cost basis for each coin (average or FIFO), every operation including transfers and staking, and a return that does not confuse deposits with profit.

What to track

  • Balances — per exchange and wallet, in one currency.
  • Cost basis — the price the coins were bought at; without it you cannot calculate profit or breakeven.
  • Operations — buys, sells, deposits, withdrawals, fees, staking rewards.
  • Transfers — from an exchange to a wallet and back. This is not a sale: the coin changed place, its cost basis stays the same.
  • Stablecoins — also a portfolio position: money «in USDT» is part of the allocation and of the return.

Average cost or FIFO

Example: you bought 1 ETH at $2,000, then another 1 ETH at $3,000; then sold 1 ETH at $3,500, and the current price is also $3,500.

FIFO (first bought is sold first)Average cost
Cost of the ETH sold$2,000$2,500
Realized profit+$1,500+$1,000
Cost of the remaining ETH$3,000$2,500
Unrealized profit+$500+$1,000
Total result+$2,000+$2,000

The total is the same — the method only changes which part of the profit counts as realized. Average cost is handier for decisions («where is my breakeven»), FIFO is often required by tax rules. Which method you need for taxes depends on the rules of your country.

Return with deposits

If you added money to the exchange, growth of the portfolio value is not a return. TWR (quality of the investments, ignoring deposits) and XIRR (what happened to your money, given when you contributed it) show it honestly — a worked example is in «Portfolio return with deposits: TWR and XIRR».

Allocation and rebalancing

Set target shares — for example 50% BTC, 30% ETH, 20% stablecoins — and once a month, or when the deviation exceeds a set threshold, bring the portfolio back: sell what grew above its share and buy what lags. Watch concentration separately: if one coin is more than half of the portfolio, the portfolio result is that coin's result.

Crypto portfolio tracking in Davinchu

In «Investments», one or several portfolios combine:

  • spot balances from Bybit, Binance, OKX, BingX and HTX via a read-only API key — refreshed every 15 minutes. BingX also supplies spot trades for 365 days, and the cost basis is calculated from them where the history explains the balance. For coins on other exchanges you enter the average price in the position — syncing does not overwrite it;
  • Interactive Brokers and T-Bank securities and cash — in the same portfolio, with the broker's average price;
  • manual assets — a coin on a cold wallet or in DeFi: ticker, average price, network, wallet, target share, sell target and staking yield;
  • operations — buy, sell, staking, transfer, deposit, withdrawal, fee; CSV import of up to 2,000 rows at a time, and export of the whole register.

The accounting method is «Average» or «FIFO», the base currency is USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, CHF, CAD or AUD. The «Overview» shows value, total P/L (unrealized + realized + staking income − fees), TWR and XIRR returns, drawdown and volatility; allocation by asset, class, source and network; the «Rebalance» tab calculates what to buy and sell to reach target shares — no orders are sent. Alerts — a target price reached, concentration exceeded (60% by default) and a sharp 24-hour move. A portfolio can be shared by link — composition in percent, TWR, drawdown and volatility, amounts optional — or downloaded as an «Investor report» PDF. The «Investments» section is on every plan, and the Free plan connects two accounts at no cost.

Futures accounts are not moved into the portfolio: their trades are in the trading journal. More about connecting exchanges — on the «Davinchu for crypto traders» page and in «Read-only API key».
